Weekend Round-Up: Week 5 of spring sports

Baseball: The Hood baseball team went 0-4 this weekend, losing all their games to York College of Pennsylvania by a small margin. The Blazers lost the first game 3-2, the second game 14-12, the third 12-8, and the fourth 2-0. Senior Andrew Wenner hit a three-run home run in the first inning of game two and junior James Deprospero hit a grand slam in the ninth inning, but it wasn’t enough to hold off the Spartans. Wenner and first-year Jacob Saylor also homered in game three, but the team still came up short.

Softball: The Hood softball team traveled to York on Saturday, April 10 and split a two-game series with the Spartans, winning the first game 8-7. Sophomore Belle Bortner secured two runs and one RBI while also scoring two runs herself. Sophomore Lindsay Wilson collected four RBI’s. The Blazers lost the second game to York 9-0.

Men’s lacrosse: The Hood men’s lacrosse team advanced to 3-2 on the season after a crushing 17-9 win at Albright College. Senior Bentley LeBarron and first-year Will Sweeney each scored five goals to lead the Blazers in scoring, while first-year Colby Gallagher contributed with four goals of his own. Senior goalkeeper Trenton Lazorchak kept the lead for the Blazers with 15 saves.

Women’s lacrosse: The Hood women’s lacrosse team lost to Albright College on Saturday after an extremely tight, back and forth game. It was senior night for the Blazers for the class of 2020 and the class of 2021. The game was tied 7-7 when the Albright offense scored the game winner with only 28 seconds left in the game. Despite the devastating loss, junior Laura Skorobatsch had three goals and junior Rebecca Turner had two. Junior goalie Sophia Vilaca collected 10 saves for the day.

Men’s track and field: The Hood men’s track and field team competed at the Messiah Multi & Invitational meet on Friday, April 9, and Saturday, April 10, where they placed seventh. Grad student Chris Burgenson had the best finish for the Blazers when he earned second place in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. Senior Kevin Ciocco placed second in the hammer throw and third in the shot put. The Blazers ended with 31 total points.

Women’s track and field: The Hood women’s track and field team ended the weekend with eight points. Hood’s best finish was sophomore Krista Przywara in the pole vault. She completed a height of 2.51 meters to earn a fourth-place finish.
