Weekend Round-Up: Week 2 of spring sports

Women’s lacrosse: On Thursday, March 18, the women’s lacrosse team defeated Eastern University 18-4. Juniors Laura Skorobatsch and Rebecca Turner each had four goals. Junior Jess Lyons and first-year Liz Connelly each scored three. The Hood defense only allowed seven shots on target. On Saturday, March 20, Hood hosted No. 7 ranked York College of Pennsylvania. The Blazers were defeated 18-4 by the Spartans. Skorobatsch, Connelly, Lyons, and sophomore Lucy Sokoloff each scored one goal.

Softball: The Hood college softball team played two double headers against Alvernia University this weekend, losing all four of their matches, three by mercy rule. First-year Mallorie Hetzel had four at bats with two hits and one run in their second game, which they lost 6-3.

Baseball: The Hood baseball team competed in Annville, Pennsylvania, against Lebanon Valley College this weekend in a double header. Hood lost the first match 5-0 but came back in the ninth inning of the second game to win 5-4. First-year Stephen Sommer and grad student Jordan Patterson led off the ninth inning with back-to-back singles. First-year Joe Monteleone recorded a two RBI base hit which gave Hood the lead.

Men’s swimming: The Hood college swim team hosted York college on Saturday, March 20. Hood fell to the Spartans by a score of 109.5-61.5. Sophomores Hazen Stowell and Russell Odor both took home wins for the Blazers in the 500-yard freestyle and the 50-yard freestyle, but it wasn’t enough to top the Spartans.

Women’s swimming: The women’s swimming team was defeated by York this weekend 121-22. Hood had no event winners this competition but had three swimmers place second. Sophomore Molly Cronin recorded a time of 1:08.69 in the 100-yard backstroke, sophomore Grace Winpigler recorded a time of 1:22.43 in the 100-yard breaststroke and first-year Hailey Sofranko finished the 100-yard freestyle in 1:13.48.

Men’s track and field: Hood competed in the Falcon First Chance Hexagonal at Messiah University on Friday, March 19, where they placed sixth. Senior Kevin Ciocco set two new school records for the Blazers. In the hammer throw he recorded a distance of 44.89 meters to win the event. He also broke his own record in the shot put where he placed fourth with a distance of 12.57 meters.

Women’s track and field: The women’s track and field team also placed sixth at the Falcon First Chance Hexagonal. Sophomore Mackenzie Rogers placed eighth in the 200-meter dash and sophomore Krista Przywara tied for seventh in the pole vault.
