Hood SGA to hold TikTok competition

Hood’s Student Government Association (SGA) will be hosting an Easter TikTok competition beginning later this month with all undergraduate students having the opportunity to enter.

SGA President Lily Bean said that in the past, the traditions committee chair would host an Easter egg hunt that the entire Frederick community could participate in. However, due to COVID-19, the student organization had to come up with another spring themed idea.

Bean said the competition doesn’t have any requirements outlined as of now and gives creative freedom to participants. Bean also said that the submission process will be open for one week, March 28 through April 4. The voting period will be open the next week, April 5 through April 12.

After those two weeks, three winners will be announced on April 12. Each of the winners will receive a $25 Amazon gift card.

Judging of the submissions will be based on three categories: most liked on TikTok, SGA executive board’s choice and SGA senate’s choice.

“[the SGA] acknowledge that some students on campus have larger followings on TikTok, so just to ‘even the playing ground’ we’re having three categories,” Bean said. This means that residential, commuter and remote undergraduate students will all have the opportunity to enter the competition.

In addition to the TikTok competition, Bean said that the SGA plans on bringing back the annual Give Your Heart to Hood Day celebration which is when students work on projects beneficial to the college together.
