Dean of Students and Vice President of Student Life Olivia White will leave Hood at the end of the fall semester, after announcing her retirement in February of this year.
White had planned to leave Hood after the end of the 2020 spring semester but postponed her retirement until Dec. 31, 2020 so she would be able to help the Hood community through the changes occurring due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
“It is hard to express the impact Olivia has had on countless members of our community or to imagine Hood without Olivia,” President Andrea Chapdelaine said in an email announcing White’s departure. “She has served our students, faculty and staff with her engaging personality, sense of humor and caring warmth. I know I speak for many when I say I have depended on and benefitted from her care and concern, her good counsel to my leadership and her enjoyment for life.”
White has a bachelor’s of science in biology from The College of Charleston, a master of education in college student personnel from the University of South Carolina, and a doctorate in higher education administration and educational leadership from Union Institute and University. She also completed a management development program at Harvard University.
White started at Hood in July 1992 and was appointed Dean of Students in 1994. She has remained in that role for her duration at Hood. White has also made significant contributions to the Frederick Community, and was awarded the George B. Delaplaine Distinguished Citizen award in 2017. White was the first woman to be given the award in Frederick County.
