Just as the academic semester has panned out unexpectedly due to COVID-19, for those celebrating, Thanksgiving plans have also undergone some changes.
Some families opt to stay home this year, ditching their usual travel plans for a safer and more virus-friendly option.
“We are still planning on doing thanksgiving separate this year. It’s mainly due to protecting my grandparents,” senior Tenley Reeder said. “Even though my family isn’t frequently exposed and we typically work from home, we still didn’t want to risk it.”
COVID-19 is also causing some families to cancel out-of-town plans.
“It did put a damper on the plans of visiting my niece and my dad who live out of state,” junior Beth-Ann Carter said.
Even the Hood president is taking precautions, choosing to be on campus in East Cottage with her “pod” family. “We would have been traveling to have Thanksgiving with my older son Ben and our extended family. Instead, we will be Zooming with them,” President Andrea Chapdelaine said.
Chapdelaine notes that even though the pandemic will make being away from family hard, she will still focus on all the things she has to be thankful for.
“Thanksgiving is one of my favorite holidays because it is all about gathering with family, giving thanks, as well as food and football– some of my favorite things,” Chapdelaine said.
