Danny Castillo, a 2019 graduate of Hood College will start his new job on Wednesday, Nov 4. Castillo said he applied because the job aligned with his skills and work experience.
As an admissions counselor, Castillo will be a liaison for new students. He will read applications, give tours and do outreach work to high schools.
Castillo said he wanted to become an admissions counselor at Hood because he said Hood became his home and he wants to help others have the same experience.
“I was in that office four years ago, not knowing where it was going to take me,” Castillo said. “Hood presented this opportunity, so I took it.”
At Hood, Castillo double majored in business, with a concentration in marketing and Spanish. He also was a four-year starter on the men’s soccer team.
Castillo was selected for the position by Bill Brown, the vice president of enrollment management, and Nikki Bamonti, the director of admissions. The current admissions counselors also had a say in selecting which applicant they would like to work with.
Kyle Bulgarelli, an admissions counselor, said everyone liked Castillo. The admissions department looks for applicants who will get along with the whole team and understand when there is work to be done.
Castillo also has many other skills that will make him an appropriate admissions counselor, Bulgarelli said. He speaks Spanish, which gives him the ability to communicate with a more diverse group of students. He also understands the college application process well. Bulgarelli also said that Castillo is very personable.
“He can connect with a lot of different people,” Bulgarelli said.
Castillo will begin a graduate program in business at Hood this spring and will also help coach the men’s soccer team as a volunteer assistant.
