Hood Choir Goes on Tour

By Allie Ramsburg

The Hood College choir is traveling to Rehoboth, Del. for their first stop on their tour for the 2013-2014 school year.

Alex Helsabek, who sang with the choir when it performed last spring, invited it to perform later on at his home church, All Saint’s Episcopal, in Rehoboth, Del. Helsabek sang with the choir when it performed Schubert’s Mass in G last spring.

Their first stop will be at the same church in Rehoboth, Del. on Oct. 19 and 20. Following that stop is still undecided, but the choir is hoping for similar opportunities throughout the year.

Kate Kopasek, a Hood College senior, sings in the soprano section and also serves as the president of the choir. She has been a member since freshman year.

“Our goal is to have as many members travel as possible,” said Kopasek, choir president who is a soprano. She said she understands that members have other campus commitments, and not everyone will be able to go.

During practices, the choir works on, “Making all of the voices work together when there are more or less certain parts,” Kopasek said. This way the choir as a whole can perform together, regardless of who is able to travel.

Choir member, Bianca Padilla is a senior who has been a member for two semesters, said, “This is a great way for students to become involved, especially if they like to travel.”

The tour will give the choir a new experience to be able to travel. “When we have such chances to take our choir to other places, we were able to showcase the talent here at Hood College,” Kopasek said.

The Hood Choir as a whole expressed hope that the opportunity of going on tour will help them grow. “I enjoy choir a lot and it’s a great way to meet people,” Padilla said.

The tour will also allow the choir to market to new members when they see that they do more than just singing on campus.

“It’s always fun and an honor—to represent Hood off-campus as well as outside the Frederick area,” Kopasek said.
