DESCRIPTION:The Microbiology\, Public Health\, and History Film Festival presents the 2019 Latvian feature film\, Blizzard of Souls. As part of the ongoing series\, “From Great War to Great Flu”\, we explore the lesser-known Eastern Front of World War I\, 110 years after Latvia entered the war as part of the Russian ​Imperial Army. Following the film\, we will explore how the Great War led to the Russian Revolution and Latvian independence before helping to sweep the 1918 influenza pandemic eastwards. The panel discussion aims to help the audience understand present-day relations between Russia and the Baltic states of Latvia\, Estonia\, and Lithuania. Free refreshments will be provided.
