SUMMARY:The Half-Life of Marie Curie
DESCRIPTION:Back to Events \n\n\n\n\n\nIn 1911\, Marie Curie won the Nobel Prize in Chemistry for her discovery of the elements radium and polonium. By 1912\, she was the object of ruthless gossip over an alleged affair with the married Frenchman Paul Langevin. Weakened and demoralized\, Marie agrees to join her friend Hertha Ayrton\, an electromechanical engineer and suffragette\, at Hertha’s seaside retreat on the British coast. This two-woman play revels in the power of female friendship between these two brilliant women\, both of whom are mothers\, widows and fearless champions of scientific inquiry. \n\n\n\nHodson Auditorium\, Rosenstock Hall\, 7 p.m. \n\n\n\nJoint production with Ardeo Theatre Co.

SUMMARY:HOOD Talks: "Mental Health and Addiction" with Stephanie Snyder
DESCRIPTION:Part of the HOOD Talks Series: Online \n\n\n\nThis presentation highlights the critical role mental health plays in effective addiction treatment. Addiction and mental health challenges often coexist\, creating a complex interplay that must be addressed holistically. I will explore how underlying issues such as trauma\, anxiety\, depression\, and other mood disorders can fuel substance use and how untreated mental health conditions can hinder recovery. Through an integrated approach combining therapeutic modalities\, medication management (when appropriate)\, and psychoeducation\, clients are better equipped to achieve lasting sobriety. Emphasizing mental health within addiction treatment not only supports healing but also empowers individuals to rebuild meaningful\, balanced lives.

SUMMARY:HOOD Talks: "AI and the New Era in Bioinformatics" with Eckart Bindewald
DESCRIPTION:Bioinformatics is undergoing a paradigm shift: deep learning methods are reshaping foundational analyses across every molecular scale. In this talk\, several areas are highlighted to illustrate the new capabilities and methodologies\, such as rapid prediction of three-dimensional protein structures directly from sequence\, improved forecasting of protein properties\, and sensitive detection of molecular relationships. These data-driven techniques accelerate discovery workflows and place model-based reasoning at the center of routine life science research. In this talk\, an overview is provided of how AI-inspired approaches are reshaping the bioinformatics toolkit and opening new avenues for understanding biological mechanisms and advancing drug design.
