Hood College nursing students and faculty have received several accomplishments on both the local and national levels.

The program selected two students, junior Keiry Diaz and senior Drew Keiser, to attend American Association of Colleges of Nursing student policy summit.

“This is a significant achievement and an excellent opportunity to strengthen their understanding of nursing policy, advocacy, and leadership at the national level,” interim department chair Sandra Thomas-Lalmansingh said.

The summit’s focus is to educate nurses about federal health policy, the legislative process and the roles nurses play in shaping healthcare policy.

“This experience represents growth, leadership, and responsibility,” senior nursing student Drew Keiser said. “I am especially excited about gaining insight into nurse policy development and understanding how our voices contribute to decisions that impact patient care nationwide.”

The summit will be held on March 30-31 in Washington, D.C.

The department’s faculty also marked several milestones:

  • Evelyn Nieves has been elected for tenure and promotion to associate professor of nursing.
  • Hollis Caswell has been selected for the National League for Nursing Leadership Institute for Simulation Educators. This prestigious program advances simulation initiatives in nursing education and practice.
  • Sheila Pierre-Louis  has been chosen for the Dr. Peg E. Daw Nurse Faculty Annual Recognition award. This award is a Maryland statewide honor that recognizes nursing faculty for excellence, innovation, leadership, and significant contributions to nursing education.
