Halloween is approaching quickly and there are a lot of bone-chilling games to play this season. From the tension building to the heart stopping, here are 10 spooky games to play during Halloween.
10. Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines (2004)
Have you ever wanted to play as a powerful vampire, stalking prey in the night? Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines is a classic, with you taking the role of a newly created vampire stalking the streets of Los Angeles. What type of vampire will you be? What choices will you make? Will you be able to uphold the masquerade?
9. Dead Space Remake (2023)
In space, no one can hear you scream. In Dead Space, you take the role of Issac Clark as you explore the USG Ishimura, a spacecraft crawling with horrors beyond imagination. With a combination of visceral horror, a disturbing story, and gut-wrenching scares around every dark corner of this sci-fi horror.
8. The Mortuary Assistant (2022)
What job could be scarier than working with dead bodies? How about working with dead bodies while a demon is trying to take over your body? The Mortuary Assistant puts you in that exact scenario. You take on the role of a mortuary worker who is slowly becoming possessed. Can you find the secrets in the bodies before you lose yourself?
7. Phasmaphobia (2020)
Ghost hunting has always been terrifying, and, in Phasmaphobia, you can do so with your friends. Hunt down ghosts in haunted locations, from farm houses to abandoned schools. Use equipment to figure out what the ghost is, but be quick. As you hunt the ghost, the ghost will also be hunting you.
6. Resident Evil 7 Biohazard (2017)
Resident Evil 7 takes the franchise back to its horror roots, bringing not only a bone-chilling atmosphere, but horrors that make your skin crawl. You take on the role of Ethan Winters as you explore a desolated southern home, with a demented family, along with many biological horrors, trying to kill you. Who knows, maybe the house itself is alive? Only you can find out.
5. Outlast (2013)
In Outlast, you are Miles Upshur, an investigative reporter looking into the madness that lurks within Mount Massive Asylum. Trapped within the asylum, you must find a way to survive the mentally deranged that still lurk within. What makes this game unique is that there is no combat in this game. Your choices are to simply run, hide, or die.
4. Amnesia: The Bunker (2023)
In this game, you take on the role of a soldier during World War 1, trapped in a bunker with no memory of how you ended up there. You must try to escape this underground tomb using what little resources you have. Be careful though, for there is a terrible creature that constantly hunts you, and there is no way to stop it. You must use your wit if you want to survive.
3. Alien: Isolation (2014)
Based on the Alien movies, Alien: Isolation pits you against the popular icon of horror that is the xenomorph. You play as Amanda Ripley, daughter of Ellen Ripley, as you navigate the space station Nostromo. The xenomorph is always listening and is constantly on the hunt, so you will need to be silent and navigate slowly if you wish to survive.
2. Little Nightmares (2017)
Despite the title, the nightmares here are nowhere near little, only you. Little Nightmares puts you in the role of a small child named Six. The world is much larger than you in the most literal sense, and you must navigate this world of giants: a deformed world full of terrible creatures and hostile environments.
1. Silent Hill 2 Remake (2024)
In the abandoned town of Silent Hill, things are not what they seem. Silent Hill 2 is a psychological horror game where you take on the role of James Sunderland, who is looking for his wife within the small town. However, Jame’s wife has been dead for three years. Could it truly be her?
