At Hood College, due process is more than a legal requirement; it is a cornerstone of the institution’s commitment to fairness, safety, and support for all members of the campus community.
This principle is evident in Hood’s approach to Title IX, the federal law that prohibits discrimination based on sex in educational programs and activities.
Hood’s Title IX policy outlines a comprehensive process for handling reports of sexual harassment, including investigation, hearing, and appeal procedures.
The policy is reviewed annually, and sometimes more frequently, to ensure compliance with evolving federal regulations.
Tammi Simpson, vice president of Community and Inclusivity at Hood College, emphasized the college’s dedication to equity and support.
Simpson stated, “The College is committed to providing an educational and work environment in which all members of the campus community are able to participate without being subjected to discrimination on the basis of sex, sexual orientation, or gender identity.”
Simpson further explained the steps taken if discrimination occurs. “We are committed to remedying the discrimination and its effects,” she said. “It is our hope that no one experiences an incident for which the application of Title IX is required, but if such an incident occurs, we are prepared to provide support and resources for all parties involved.”
Students, faculty, and staff can access the full Title policy on the Hood College website, which details the rights of individuals involved in Title IX cases and the steps the College takes to ensure a fair and transparent process.
As conversations around due process and campus safety continue nationwide, Hood College’s proactive stance offers a model of how institutions can balance legal compliance with compassion and care.
