The Hood College men’s soccer team opened its 2025 season with a productive first week, securing a 6-1 win over Wilson College in the home opener Friday, Aug. 29, at Thomas Athletic Field. The result followed a 3-1 victory at Chatham University on Sept. 1 and a scoreless draw with Goucher College on Sept. 6.

The early results mark a positive start for a program coming off a 7-9-2 record in 2024. Last year, Hood showed signs of progress but struggled for consistency in conference play.
This fall, the Blazers return a core group of experienced players while integrating several newcomers who made an immediate impact.
Senior defender Jackson Quenzer said the roster has more depth than in recent years. “I think the team is looking the strongest and best it has been going into my fourth season,” Quenzer said. “We got a lot of great additions to the team and the guys all came in ready to compete and get after it. I think we have a great team that is capable of reaching the playoffs and beating teams we haven’t beaten in years.”
Against Wilson, transfer forward Cristian Topovich scored twice and added two assists in his debut. First-year forward Chino Delgado scored two goals less than a minute apart, while goalkeeper Adam Labows recorded the win in his first start. James Knowlton and Evan Miller each added their first career goals for Hood.
The group effort reflected a more balanced attack, with contributions from both veterans and first-year players. Quenzer said building team chemistry has been a point of emphasis.
“A fun fact is the team gets haircuts by Zeth Whipkey, a freshman on the team,” he said.
He also described the team’s pregame routine.
“Game days we arrive, get the music going in the locker room, sip on an energy drink and eat some dried mango, then head out to hit some pings with Austin before warmups,” Quenzer said.
Hood continues its nonconference schedule next week before beginning Middle Atlantic Conference play later this month. With an experienced senior class and several newcomers already in key roles, the Blazers are aiming to take another step forward this fall.
