“Joe was a constant presence in the dining hall and developed relationships with many of us, but mostly with students. He always took the time to say hello, and he will be missed,” President Debbie Ricker wrote in an email to the Hood community.

John Bragel, the director of Dining Services, said many students have told him how much they miss King.

“Joe King was an amazing person who loved working at Hood,” Bragel said. “He was here since my first day at Hood. He had a tremendous smile and a focused work ethic. I have nothing but respect for all Joe did while working at Hood. We truly enjoyed working together. I knew if Joe was on the job, all would be good. It’s still such a shock to not have him with us. He is deeply missed.”

“Joe’s passing was an unexpected tragedy and devastating blow to the temperament of our Food Service program,” chef Baelyn Cureton said. “Joe brought an undeniable presence and energy to our program that couldn’t be matched by anyone else. His dedication to our customers and his friendly and compassionate approach to his fellow employees will be impossible to replace.”
