Goalie Ellenberger makes history

Women’s soccer goalkeeper Brenna Ellenberger is the definition of a lockdown goalie.

Ellenberger, a senior from Baltimore, has made Hood her home.

She holds the record for the fewest goals allowed on average in Hood history, with just 1.07 goals per game.

Over her four-year career, the senior goalie ranks third all-time in Hood history with a .828 save percentage.

Ellenberger has countless great memories throughout her career, but none compare to the playoff game during her sophomore season.

“The feeling of being on the field, under the lights, with this pressure to make it to the next round, and the crowd cheering, it was such a surreal moment,” Ellenberger said. “The game was a battle and going into penalty shootouts just made the moments that much more memorable.”

A one-time second-team all-conference award winner, Ellenberger is a natural-born team player and leader on the field.

“Overall, my biggest accomplishment is helping my team stay in games and ultimately win them,” Ellenberger said. “The feeling of knowing I have my team’s back when they need me most and knowing I have their trust is something I truly cherish.”

Ellenberger has had a very successful career at Hood, but if the goalkeeper could change one thing, her mindset would be the starting spot.

“I get in my own head a lot and it causes me to get in my own way, to the point where I am sabotaging myself,” Ellenberger said.

The best advice that helped with her success and confidence came from one of her high school goalkeeper coaches.

“You play soccer every day and you have played it for years. It’s just another day of soccer, so just go out there and play soccer,” Ellenberger’s former coach advised.

In her final year, Ellenberger aims to lead her team to another playoff spot and come out on top before it’s too late.

“Take in every second you get because you only have four years, and it surely flies by,” Ellenberger said.
