New courses offered during course registration

Course registration opens this week.

Seniors will be able to register on Nov. 13, juniors on Nov. 14, sophomores on Nov. 15 and first-year students on Nov. 16.

Nine new courses will be offered in the spring semester.

The new courses include: The Humanity of Inhumane Behavior in the honors department; Memory and Monuments in the history department; Vietnam, the Media and American Culture in the communication arts program; Industrial Research in Mathematics in the mathematics department; Photo and Cultural Meaning of the Body in the Global Languages and Cultures department; Real Estate Financial Management, in the business department; 100 Years of Spanish Non-fiction Films in the Global Languages and Cultures department; Humans, Animals and Society in the honors department; and Sportswashing, also in the honors department.

Corey Campion, an associate professor of history and global studies, said his course, Memory and Monuments, will be a special topics course. “This particular course will run as history 371E, which is a special topic in public history; it’s a part of the history major,” he said.

Campion framed the course as a special topics course based on his interest in the impact of monuments on our current society. The special topics course was preapproved by the department, allowing him to choose the content he wanted to include, he said.

His course will also count towards the global studies major because he teaches in both programs.

The prerequisites required to sign up for the course are either an English course, or history 217, 218, 299B, or 209, or permission of the instructor.

“Anybody that’s interested [can take it], even if they haven’t taken their history or English [course], don’t worry about it. Just reach out to me and I can let them in the course,” he said.

Hood College’s website states that students will be able to register themselves via self-service for spring 2024 until Sunday, Jan. 28, at 11:59 p.m. After that, all schedule changes must be processed through the registrar’s office. The drop/add period for spring 2024 ends on Thursday, Feb. 1 at 5 p.m.
