Hood College is presenting six senior exhibitions in Hodson Gallery during the month of April.
Artist Tiffany Montes’ show titled “Fragments of a Tired Mind” displays pieces representing depression, anxiety, ADHD, and all the feelings in between. According to Montes’ artist statement, the pieces displayed in the show combine handicrafts with fine art to create an intimate mix of pieces for viewing pleasure.
“The Nature of Portraiture” by Victoria Jones presents an assemblage of portrait paintings that honor both the friends and connections Jones has established during her time in college. “These oil paintings combine both my admiration for diversity in the characteristics of people and ecosystems by staging their portraits in distinct biomes,” Jones said.
Artist Audrey Lindsay’s exhibition “A Walk Through the Garden” will consist of both large and extra-large sized cyanotypes. “There will also be a section of the exhibition where there will be a mini print collection,” Lindsay said.
“Broken Windows: The Evolution of Graffiti from Subways to Galleries” by Kimberly Castellano is a multi-medium exposé about the history of graffiti that explores the shift in the culture amongst graffiti artists and also how the public has started to view street art.
“By going back to my roots and original artist style, I implement these graffiti style techniques to showcase how I myself have rediscovered my passion for art throughout my experiences in college,” Castellano said.
Artist Jaden Poole’s exhibition titled “Synced” explores the commonality and differences between generations.
“1920s” by Phoebe Schindler expresses the ups and downs of the decade. “The viewers will see my work and feel the party aspect while experiencing the elegance of this time,” Schindler said.
Phoebe Schindler, Victoria Jones, and Kimberly Castellano’s exhibitions will be displayed in the Hodson Gallery from April 17-21 with the reception taking place April 21 from 5 to 7 p.m.
Additionally, Tiffany Montes, Audrey Lindsay, and Jaden Poole’s exhibitions will be showcased in the Hodson Gallery from April 24-28 with the reception taking place April 28 from 5 to 7 p.m.
“Seniors create an exhibition of work that explores and portrays their artistic theories, while showcasing what has transformed them into artists,” said Bonnie Kern, gallery director at Hood College. “Within the gallery space, we as the viewer experience the artist’s journey toward a culmination of their senior year.”
