In need of a new public library card, but don’t want to go through the trouble of registering for one?
Head to Hood’s library on March 22 between 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. where a Frederick County Public Library (FCPL) specialist will be ready to hook you up. Just make sure to bring your Hood ID.
All students who take advantage of this opportunity will be able to register for a full-access library card right then and there. The FCPL specialist will demonstrate how to navigate and access what their public library has to offer.
A public library card can give Hood students access to more resources than what is available through Hood’s own library. A card with FCPL provides students with quality information resources such as eBooks, streaming videos through Kanopy services, digital magazines and audiobooks.
“Since Hood College students have access to the local public library resources, we try to not duplicate what they offer,” Hood Library Director Toby Peterson said. “In other words, there are resources available at FCPL that are not available through the Hood College Library.”
Hood’s library has a smaller number of books and information available and this potential connection to FCPL resources will only help students have more access and knowledge at their disposal.
“My hope is that Hood College students will have more options for quality information resources after this event,” Peterson said. “Faculty will have more options for assigning readings from FCPL’s eBook collection or viewings from FCPL’s video streaming Kanopy collection.”
The library card will be available to all Hood students no matter their home address and state. The card will only expire after it hasn’t been used in two years.
Students can get a library card for FCPL anytime by visiting a branch, but this one-time event will save them a trip and they can grab a slice of pizza while they’re there.
