Career center hosts annual internship fair

Hood College hosted their annual Internship Fair in Whitaker Campus Center on Sept. 16, 2021.

The fair included 27 different companies and organizations looking for new volunteers and interns and 127 students who attended in hopes of finding internship and volunteer opportunities. These ranged from the Boys and Girls Club of Frederick to the Frederick County State’s Attorney’s Office and many more.

This event is the first of the two internship fairs to be held this year. The first one being in the fall, and the second being in the spring semester.

Upon arrival, students made their way through an arrangement of tables and displays, many of which had free goodies and flyers to distribute to students who were interested. “My favorite part of the fair was spinning the wheel for a prize,” sophomore Dan Blanchfield said. “I got a pretty cool goodie bag with a stress ball and candy.”

While most companies were looking for future helpers, others were planning for upcoming events. For example, the Hurwitz Breast Cancer organization was signing up students to volunteer for the next 5K run on Oct. 10, 2021, which will be held at Hood College at 5 a.m.

“We hope that the students who attended the fair are able to create meaningful connections with the organizations to go on to complete a volunteer or internship experience with them,” Career Development Program Manager Bre Harwood said.

During the fair, many familiar faces were seen from associations who have been a part of the Hood College Internship Fair for quite a few years and will be back for years to come.
