Hood’s athletic conference changes spectator policy

By Delaney Crawford//

Fans once again will be allowed to attend some sports events at Hood.

The Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) recently overturned its no-spectator policy for athletic events and determined that each institution should decide whether to admit fans to athletic events.

The MAC has instituted the following fundamental guidelines for all schools choosing to admit spectators:

  • All spectators must follow institutional health and safety guidelines at all times while in attendance.
  • All spectators must wear masks and practice appropriate social distancing at all times while in attendance.
  • Failure to comply with the institutional spectator policy will result in removal from the site of competition.

Hood decided to allow spectators at most sporting events as long as each person follows the guidelines put in place by the Centers for Disease Control, the Frederick County Health Department and the college.

Fans will not be permitted at any Hood baseball games due to the policies in place at Frederick Community College, Hood baseball’s home field. Spectators are also prohibited from the BB&T Arena, Huntsinger Aquatics Center and the Esports Arena.

“The presidents of the MAC institutions elected to leave it up to the individual schools due to the different state and local policies in place,” Sports Information Director Geoff Goyne said. “Hood’s COVID-19 Emergency Response Team (CERT) used the most current information available from the state, county and city to come up with Hood’s new spectator policy.”
