Hood College held a memorial service on Wednesday, March 10, to mark the one-year anniversary of COVID-19 sending all Hood faculty, staff and students home.

“It was a year ago this week that we went virtual,” Rev. Beth O’Malley said.

The service was held at Coffman Chapel by Rev. Beth and music was provided by Lynn Staininger. This service was conceptualized as “a recognition that this is a really unique time,” O’Malley said.

The focus of the memorial was honoring those who have died in the past year, regardless of the cause.

Many who have died in the last year were unable to spend their final moments with family due to the reality of COVID-19 and the separation from each other. The ceremony included saying the names of those who have died, which were submitted by loved ones.

The service was attended by only a handful of individuals and was live-streamed by Hood’s marketing office. The service can be viewed on the Hood College’s YouTube channel.
