Blazer Volleyball Sweeps Valley Forge

The Hood College volleyball team competed in two matches this week.  On Oct. 16, the season hit an all-time high (9-11) “.360” in a convincing 3-0 sweep overValley Forge Christian College (0-20) in a nonconference match.

On Oct. 17, the Blazers volleyball team (9-12, 1-5 CAC) came up  short of a 3-0 decision(10-25, 11-25, 12-25) to Stevenson University (25-2, 5-1 CAC)  in a Capital Athletic Conference match.

On Oct. 16, the Blazers held a strong 6-3 lead in the first set;Valley Forge was falling behind 7-2 over the next few exchanges to go up 13-5, forcing them to call a timeout.

Morgan Huffer served two aces in the run. Hood came through and was relentless against the Patriots for the rest of the way, collecting 14 kills on 22 attempts.

Hayley Rogers led all attackers with 10 kills, an impressive .562 hitting percentage; Amy Hagerdon held 22 assists with nine kills on 12 attempts for a stellar .750 percentage. She also served three aces, giving her 58 for the season.

Huffer finished with a total of nine digs and two aces; Allie Donoghue contributed nine assists and three kills.  Kaitlyn Hays and Anela Alic contributed with two kills apiece.  Ashley Park-Brouse, Brittany Lethbridge, and Alyssa Eshleman each tallied four kills.

On Oct. 17, the Mustangs led, it was neck to neck in the first set, measuring up 15 kills on 40 attempts with three errors. Hood used an ace by Alyssa Eshleman, a kill by Ashley Park-Brouse and a Mustang hit error to take a good 3-1 lead at the start of set two.

During set three Brittany Lethbridge scored a set of kills which drew the Blazers to within 15-10; however Stevenson’s Christine Isenberg served up three straight aces which created a 7-0 run by the Mustangs.

Lethbridge led the Hood offense with six kills, Alyssa Eshleman had five and Ashley Park-Brouse had two. Amy Hagerdon set up 12 of Hood’s 16 kills and Eshleman held a team-high of 10 digs.
