Hood College Television was a long time in the making.
Created by juniors Tyler Graham and RJ Tucker, the club is meant to serve as a “free space for student creations” Graham said.
“Over the summer me and RJ were just talking about how cool it would be to have a school television station,” Graham said, a political science major.
The station aims to feature all kinds of content.
“We’re really open to all ideas and pitches,” Tucker said.
The idea went through many boards, from the Student Government Association to President Chapdelaine, before being approved. It is being advised by Elizabeth Chang, a web design professor.
The organization held its first meeting on Feb. 28, where they held formal elections for four positions. Graham was elected president and Tucker, vice president.
The club is currently running on a $0 budget.
A three phase program was introduced to the new members to maximize success of the organization.
The station will rely on web based content via Facebook and YouTube for the first semester of its operation. It plans to move to a 24/7 streaming channel for its second phase, and for the last and final phase, focus on cross programming with Blazer Radio and The Blue and Grey.
Tucker, as vice president, is responsible for recruitment and is planning on word of mouth as one of the main vehicles to generate interest.
Graham’s greatest vision is for Hood TV to become a source of entertainment and pride for not only Hood students, but the entire city of Frederick.
“I want the starting members to be able to look back and say ‘Wow this is something I helped get off the ground’,” Graham said.
Hood TV’s first production was a Republican Club vs. Democrat Club meeting live broadcast on Facebook via Periscope. It garnered over 1,000 viewers.
