SGA Corner Update: August/September

Logan Samuels, Public Relations Chair

Welcome back, Blazers! It’s hard to believe it’s already fall semester, but SGA couldn’t be more excited to kick off a new school year! Student Government wrapped up last year with The Passing of the Gavel where we presented our new executive board, gave out awards and listened to speeches from our outgoing and incoming presidents. Awards included: Connor Asman as Male Senator of the Year, Logan Samuels as Female Senator of the Year, La Comunidad as the most improved organization, and Book Club as the best new organization. Last year was filled with several successful events, great leaders and wonderful Hood memories. We can’t wait to see what this year brings! At the student activity fair, SGA handed out election packets for anyone interested in becoming a senator at large. After the election packets were handed in, hopeful candidates were given the go ahead to start campaigning. After campaigning, came two days of voting, and then the winners were announced! New senators will be introduced to Student Government through a retreat where they will get to know each other, learn more about the organization, become comfortable with Parliamentary procedure and get inspired to start making a difference. SGA is geared up and ready to go for the semester! SGA wants to encourage all students and faculty to get involved with the March on Frederick on September 26th, as well as the Walk a Mile in Her Shoes event with the Heartly House foundation on October 11th. Keep an eye out for flyers, tabling and emails to learn more about these events as well as others from SGA! We hope everyone is settled in and enjoying the beginning of their fall semester!
